La présente contribution vise à identifier, à côté d’une possible motivation idéologique, l’intérêt nouveau porté à l’écriture de la variante dans la réinterprétation du texte de Virgile et la mise en pratique d’une lecture rhétorique. Dans cette perspective, les vers du Carmen Saeculare, comme ceux de l’Énéide, pourraient être destinés à nourrir l’argumentation des declamationes ou à servir d’exercices préparatoires appliqués, dans les écoles, aux œuvres virgiliennes. The ancient exegetes of the Carmen Saeculare read an allusion to the betrayal of Troy by Aeneas in verses 41-44, a less known version of the myth, which received a renewed fortune in Late Antiquity. This contribution aims to highlight, along with any ideological reasons, a new interest in the variant of the myth related to the interpretation of the text of Virgil and his rhetorical reading.
