Ils’est construit sur le constat d’un manque : figure essentielle des lettres européennes, reconnu sans conteste à l’étranger, Péter Nádas ne reçoit pas en France l’attention critique, et notamment universitaire, qu’il mérite. Grâce au labeur patient des traducteurs, le lecteur francophone a pourtant largement de quoi découvrir son univers protéiforme, au sein duquel émergent deux massifs romanesques – Le Livre des mémoires (1986, traduit en 1998) et Histoires parallèles (2005, traduit en 2012) ­– et leur pendant théâtral, Chants de Sirènes (2010, traduit en 2015). Ce volume comprend trois traductions inédites de textes de Péter Nádas (deux essais et un poème), ainsi que deux entretiens, l’un avec l’auteur et l’autre avec son traducteur Marc Martin. Les différentes études qui suivent scrutent particulièrement, dans les trois chefs-d’œuvre susmentionnés, une prégnance du corps que l’on peut qualifier de « politique » ainsi qu’une poétique nourrie des croisements transartistiques. Mais elles se veulent aussi une invitation à poursuivre l’interprétation plurielle d’une œuvre qui en appelle résolument à l’investissement de ses lecteurs. This monographic issue dedicated to Péter Nádas is the outcome of a meeting with the Hungarian writer during his visit at University Toulouse Jean Jaurès in October 2016. It is based on the observation that something has been missing: Péter Nádas is an essential figure in European literature, undeniably recognized abroad, but in France he has not yet received the critical and, above all, academic attention he deserves. Thanks to the patient work carried out by his translators, however, French-speaking readers have had ample opportunity to discover his protean universe, among which his two paramount novels – A Book of Memories (1986, translated into French in 1998) and Parallel Stories (2005, translated into French in 2012) – and their theatrical counterpart – Sirens’ Song(2010, translated into French in 2015). This volume includes three previously unpublished translations of texts by Péter Nádas (two essays and a poem) and two interviews, one with the author and the other with his translator Marc Martin. Focusing on the three masterpieces mentioned before, the various studiesthat follow take a closer lookat the pervasiveness of the body that can be described as “political”, and at the poetics fostered by transartistic crossings.
