Ce rôle est pourtant essentiel pour comprendre la coutume et révéler un droit coutumier conforme à celle-ci. À cette fin, les jugements rendus par les juridictions en formation coutumière sont très narratifs et reprennent souvent, dans leur motivation et en langues kanak, les adages et l’imaginaire kanak. Il n’en demeure pas moins que la place des langues kanak dans les mécanismes de production normative coutumière doit être développée. Even if they benefit from constitutional recognition, the 28 Kanak languages officially play but a small role with respect to law and justice. This role is nonetheless essential to understand the Kanak custom and thereby reveal a customary law in conformity with this one. To this end, judgments delivered by customary courts are highly narrative and often use, in their motivation and in the Kanak languages, the Kanak adages and imaginary.
