Son discours ainsi que ses collaborations artistiques – notamment avec le photographe Serge Lido et la dessinatrice Monique Lancelot –, insérés dans les réflexions de son temps sur la représentation de la danse, rendent compte des enjeux promotionnels, documentaires et techniques des œuvres produites sur la danse, principalement par la photographie, le dessin et le film. L’articulation du point de vue du danseur et de sa marge de manœuvre avec la perspective des artistes permet, au-delà du cas de Lifar, de souligner le caractère intermédial de ces réalisations. This article aims to delineate the position and agency of the dancer, choreographer, and Master of the Ballet at the Paris Opera, Serge Lifar (1905-1986), in the production and circulation of works representing his dance, and more generally of those dedicated to ballet. His discourse and artistic collaborations, notably with photographer Serge Lido and illustrator Monique Lancelot, embedded within the contemporary discussions on dance representation, shed light on the promotional, documentary, and technical concerns surrounding the works produced about dance, primarily through photography, drawing, and film. The interplay between the dancer's perspective and his creative latitude, alongside the viewpoint of the artists, emphasizes the intermedial nature of these productions, which extend beyond the specific case of Lifar’s artistic agency.
