À cette fin, je tenterai de construire le schème du miroir sans tain en tant que forme heuristique de l’expérience vécue des personnes en grande pauvreté dans les interactions mixtes, au-delà de l’appréhension de leur présentation de soi par les personnes avec lesquelles elles interagissent. Ce schème permettra de saisir ce qui se joue dans ces interactions, les surdétermine et produit des effets d’occultation : une dialectique familier-étranger. On observe, chez les personnes en grande pauvreté, un écrasement de ce qui est étranger par une certaine illusion de familiarité qui fonde la posture interactionnelle des autres interactants. S’ensuit une interaction sur deux niveaux qui ne se recoupent pas, entre, d’un côté, réification, attente de conformation aux canons des formes sociales d’humanité ou disqualification, et, de l’autre, demande de reconnaissance d’une humanité indéchiffrable parce qu’elle déborde ces canons – humanité par-là rendue irreprésentable. Il s’agira donc de tenter de donner re-présentation à ce qui échappe à la représentation dans l’appréhension sociale de la présentation de soi des personnes en grande pauvreté. In this article, I will be perusing some of Joseph Wresinski’s texts on extreme poverty through the lens of an interactionist and critical phenomenology. To this end, I will try to build a “one-way mirror” framework: that is, a heuristic form of the lived experience, in “mixed contacts”, of the people living in extreme poverty, beyond the apprehension of their self-presentation by the persons and social institutions with whom they interact. This framework aims to better understand what is at stake in these interactions, what overdetermines them and generates effects of occultation: a familiar-alien dialectic. One can there behold the squashing of what is alien in people living in extreme poverty under a certain “illusion of familiarity” which in turn serves as the basis for the interactional posture of the other interactants. From there follows an interaction on two non-overlapping levels: on the one side, reification, conformation to social expectations in terms of social humanity ideals, or disqualification; on the other side, a request to have one’s humanity recognised, although it has become undecipherable owing to its outflanking these ideals, and is thus made unrepresentable.
