En quête d’un paysage effacé (Taïeb 2024), qui sondent les traces matérielles et affectives laissées par l’exploitation minière sur les paysages et les communautés qui les habitent, cet article s’interroge sur les possibilités d’aborder, par l’investissement littéraire, les drames intimes de notre subjectivité en considérant les interactions matérielles de notre corps avec les réseaux aqueux qui traversent son habitat. Alors que la réflexion sur l’eau polluée ou tarie par l’exploitation minière fait surgir chez les narratrices des textes à l’étude quantité d’affects et de souvenirs intimes liés à la mort de leur mère, leur enquête littéraire respective se double d’une plongée en soi cherchant à figurer cette perte de la mère engloutie prématurément par la maladie. Si « nos cours d’eau transcorporels sont non seulement traversés de potentiel vital, mais [qu’] y circulent également maladies, contamination et inondations » (Neimanis 2012, p. 94), l’attention qu’on y porte révèle à la fois des relations nourricières et mortifères entre les différents actants (Bennett 2010, p. 9) vivants et non vivants de ces milieux, complexifiant les récits que l’on peut en faire. Dans une perspective écocritique affective (Kyle et Ladino 2018) mobilisant la notion de « violence lente » théorisée par Rob Nixon (2013 [2011]), l’analyse des réseaux et métaphores hydriques qui irriguent les textes à l’étude met en lumière la façon dont ils articulent la brèche affective ouverte par la perte de la mère dans la subjectivité des narratrices, et montre comment celle-ci devient à son tour un filon à suivre pour raconter ces histoires d’eaux troublées. While reflections on water polluted or dried up by mining bring forth in the narrators of the texts under study a wealth of emotions and intimate memories linked to the death of their mothers, their respective literary investigations are coupled with a journey of self-discovery seeking to represent this loss of a mother prematurely swallowed up by illness. If ‘our transcorporeal waterways are not only traversed by vital potential, but also by disease, contamination and flooding’ (Neimanis 2012, p. 94), the attention paid to them reveals both nourishing and deadly relationships between the various living and non-living actants (Bennett 2010, p. 9) in these environments, complicating the narratives that can be constructed about them.
