Entrer dans cette exposition, c’est faire un fabuleux voyage aquatique et sensoriel, qui nous fera passer par un troublant rivage de bord de mer avant de plonger dans une salle obscure et abyssale. Le récit qui nous est conté par Laure Prouvost à travers les objets, les images, les sculptures d’animaux et sa voix interpelle sur l’état actuel de nos océans. L’invitation que nous propose l’artiste nous amènera à découvrir le film d’un voyage, le point central de l’exposition, dans lequel les personnages explorent spirituellement et physiquement leur environnement, et agissent tels les tentacules d’un poulpe. La figure du poulpe, déjà maintes et maintes fois narrée dans les œuvres picturales, littéraires et cinématographiques (Hokusai, Verne, Hugo, Tolkien), se retrouve dans les œuvres de Prouvost sous un point de vue inédit. Selon elle, l’intelligence tactile du poulpe en fait un exemple philosophique à suivre car il fait preuve d’une sensibilité accrue avec tout ce qui l’entoure. En tant qu’animal flexible et changeant, le poulpe porte en lui les caractéristiques de notre monde contemporain. At the 58th Venice Biennale, Laure Prouvost presented her multi-media exhibition Deep See Blue Surrounding You, in which she offers the public an immersive experience that blurs the lines between reality and fiction. Entering this exhibition is like embarking on a fabulous aquatic and sensory journey, taking us past an unsettling seaside shore before plunging into a dark, abyssal room. The story told by Laure Prouvost through objects, images, animal sculptures and her voice raises questions about the current state of our oceans. The artist invites us to discover a film of a journey, the central focus of the exhibition, in which the characters explore their environment spiritually and physically, acting like the tentacles of an octopus. The figure of the octopus, already depicted countless times in pictorial, literary and cinematographic works (Hokusai, Verne, Hugo, Tolkien), is found in Prouvost’s works from a new perspective. According to her, the octopus’s tactile intelligence makes it a philosophical example to follow, as it demonstrates heightened sensitivity to everything around it.
